What is Litecoin?

Litecoin launched in 2011 as a lighter version of Bitcoin. It copied Bitcoin's code and changed a few settings: blocks every two and a half minutes instead of ten, a cap of 84 million coins instead of 21 million, and a different mining algorithm. The pitch was silver to Bitcoin's gold, and it stuck. Litecoin is one of the oldest coins still in daily use. People buy it for cheaper, quicker on-chain payments and to hold it.

The price above is set by supply and demand across exchanges worldwide, trading 24 hours a day. No central bank, no closing bell. That's why it keeps moving.

Three things drive most of the movement. Bitcoin's direction: Litecoin has followed Bitcoin closely for most of its life, up and down. When you look at the chart above, you're mostly looking at a version of Bitcoin's chart. Halvings: like Bitcoin, Litecoin cuts its mining reward in half roughly every four years. The price has often run up ahead of a halving and cooled after it. Payments and listings: Litecoin's fees are low and confirmations are quick, so payment processors add it and people use it for transfers. That keeps it in use between market cycles.

Litecoin has fallen by more than half from a peak several times and kept running through all of them. Where it goes next is nobody's call to make for you. What this page can tell you is the price now, how it has moved, and how to buy it properly if you decide to.

The live price is at the top of this page, refreshed continuously from global market data. It is the market rate — the exact amount you pay is shown at checkout before you confirm, including any costs.
Litecoin trades globally, 24 hours a day, with its price set purely by supply and demand. There is no central bank steadying it and no closing bell pausing it. News, regulation and shifts in demand all show up in the price immediately, which makes it more volatile than most traditional assets.
The all-time high, and how far the current price sits below it, are both in the market stats above. They update as the market does.
Yes. You buy by amount of money, not by whole coins, so you can buy a fraction of a LTC.
No. Nobody can reliably predict crypto prices, and anyone claiming otherwise is guessing. What we give you instead is live data, price history, and a clear quote before you commit to anything. Whether and when to buy is your decision.
